Comcast Reveals Thresholds For Triggering 'Protocol-Agnostic' Traffic Management Approach

Comcast Corp. is "on track to complete the transition" to a protocol-agnostic approach to managing congestion on its broadband network and continues to make investments in network upgrades "to better prevent congestion and meet... customers' ever-increasing demands for bandwidth," the company told the FCC in a filing submitted Sept. 19. In a cover letter filed in enforcement file EB-08-IH-1518 and Wireline Competition docket 07-52, Comcast said, "We continue to refine the details of our new practices, so we commit to make supplementary filings in this docket as necessary to keep the Commission (and the public) informed of any material changes in our plans before we complete the transition to protocol-agnostic congestion management by year-end." In a compliance plan included in the filing, Comcast said it would begin commercial cut-overs to the new approach in individual markets on Nov. 15.
