NTIA to Promote Global Internet Policy Principles

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration, joined by other federal agencies, is developing a set of Internet policymaking principles that the Obama administration plans to present to other countries in an effort to secure support for current Internet governance processes and bodies and to counter threats to the "political sustainability of the Internet," NTIA Administrator Lawrence Strickling said Feb. 14. In remarks at the Silicon Flatirons "Digital Broadband Migration" conference in Boulder, Colo., Mr. Strickling said one issue that was particularly thought provoking related to the "tension between disruption and stability." While this is often talked about the in the context of disrupting incumbent operators, Mr. Strickling noted concerns raised by former FCC Chairman Michael K. Powell on the potential implications for the Internet.
