States Say Dish Won't Be Viable Competitor in Wireless Market

In support of their argument that the proposed merger of T-Mobile US, Inc., and Sprint Corp. threatens to reduce competition and cause ongoing harm to consumers, the state attorneys general challenging the merger in court say that Dish Network Corp. won't be a viable competitor in the wireless market. "Dish's entrance into the market will not be timely, likely, or sufficient to replace the competitive significance of Sprint and, thus, to mitigate the anticompetitive effects of the merger," a group of 14 state attorneys general argued in a recent filing made with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
