House Judiciary Committee Amends Sex Trafficking Bill

The House Judiciary Committee on Dec. 12 approved by unanimous consent an amended version of the proposed Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA) (HR 1865), which adds a focus on enabling state enforcement actions, increased penalties, and civil recovery of injuries from websites and platforms that enable prostitution, rather than addressing the problem solely in terms of sex trafficking, as the Senate trafficking bill and the original version of the House bill did.
