Wholesale line rental creates chances for reseller innovation

BT has accepted Oftel's proposals to increase competition in the residential call market, which include introducing a new wholesale line-rental product from September 1. BT said this product will initially be similar to its existing "Call & Access" product for service providers, but that there will be a programme of enhancements from September. Changes to BT's licence forcing it to offer a new wholesale line-rental product are likely to increase competition by empowering resellers to offer a complete service - covering line rental and calls - and prompt innovations in billing.
