4G INVESTMENT GROUP LINES UP MORE THAN $1 BILLION FOR LTE

An investment group led by Verizon is committing up to $1.3 billion for LTE development. The carrier's partners in the 4G Venture Forum include Alcatel-Lucent Ventures, Charles River Partners, New Venture Partners, North Bridge Venture Partners, Norwest Venture Partners and Redpoint Ventures. Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson are the main providers for Verizon's LTE efforts. Forum participants have identified up to $1.3 billion for development, and participating venture capital firms have more than $9 billion under management. The group will fund new ideas, provide development assistance and validate the market and test concepts through labs and communities from Verizon and similar resources from Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson.
