Physical media is dying, and proof of that are the new kind of products that play digital files directly on a TV. It started with DVD players with USB ports (many even upscale standard definition video to better match a high definition TV). But they usually have limited video codec support (like DivX only) and support only USB flash drives. But now, the Western Digital TV (or WD TV) HD Media Player does away with a DVD player completely, has two USB ports tornand upscale them to full HD 1080p (1920 × 1080 pixels), it can also play native full HD files without skipping a beat. On powering up, it offers a simple navigation screen with different categories (videos, photos, music etc). It was a little slow at first, but after updating the firmware to the latest version from the WD support website (which was a really simple, two-step process), the improvements in speed of navigation were instantly noticeable.
