Finland's Tamfelt has enjoyed good growth in recent years in both its core areas of paper machine clothing and filter fabrics. It is now looking to China to continue its expansion but must first weather the current economic storms, says Nick Butler. Paper machine clothing is a rather neglected, if widespread and highly profitable field for technical textiles, and Finland's Tamfelt is a leader in it, specifically catering for wide, high-speed paper and board machines. Founded in 1797, the company started the manufacture of paper machine clothing in 1882, adding filter fabrics to its portfolio in 1965.
