Automated Extruded Pipe Die Change Over

The QuickSwitch system manufactured by Krauss-Maffei, is saving polyethylene (PE) pipe processor Egeplast up to 90% in changeover time. A pipe extruder line whose die dimensions can be changed on the fly has proved to be so successful at Germany's number two PE pipe processor that it has installed three additional lines for dimensions of 32 mm to 63 mm in diameter, as well as a larger unit for 70 mm to 160 mm pipes. Egeplast costs for changing pipe diameters within 160 mm to 250 mm have dropped from €850 to €85, and warehousing for these diameter pipes has been halved. Inventory reduction is important for Egeplast.
