AN ARMY OF ONE

Seldom do I take the United States armed forces to task, but I've often wondered what the mar-keting folks at the United States Army were thinking when they came up with the slogan "An Army of One." Although the slogan is perhaps inten-tionally ironic and designed to appeal to the self-centered youth of today, it runs entirely counter to the whole concept of an army, which is loosely defined as "a group of people working together to en-force our national resolve, such as drop-ping precision-guided munitions into the bathroom windows of tin-pot dicta-tors who annoy us."
