Political Violence in Twentieth-Century Europe

The twentieth century was a violent time for Europe, but not uniquely so. This is the principal message of Political Violence in Twentieth-Century Europe, a collection edited by Donald Bloxham and Robert Gerwarth. Drawing on the findings of a small team of historians, who worked together for five years, they chart the development of political violence in a 'long' twentieth century that goes back to about 1875. What they reveal is a pattern of experimentation and borrowing by Europeans operating in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Caucasus.
