Our client chose to take back control of its transportation operations by implementing IBM Sterling Transportation Management System (TMS). The company had used a 3PL but faced slow communication with vendors and carriers and insufficient information about pick-up times was leading to a surplus of safety stock levels. They implemented Sterling TMS for better transportation and inventory management. It provides on-demand, web-based access to a collaborative logistics network and lets them automate the entire transportation management process. Since installing, net transportation savings have totaled $500,0007year. The company has increased shipments by 80 percent, while using the same number of people. Inbound shipment visibility has lessened bottlenecks at distribution centers and cut storage costs in half. Lead times and transit times have decreased and are more consistent, resulting in reduced safety stock levels. Finally, the company has shortened payment time to carriers from 60 to 30-35 days and improved accrual accuracy.
