Solar companies are currently having a hard time when asking banks for loans to expand their companies or to help finance their projects. Bankers, project developers and manufacturers discussed the consequences of the financial crisis on thin film technology at the third EPIA International Thin Film Conference in Munich. Matthias Fawer, analyst at the Swiss bank Sarasin, forecasts a difficult future for thin film manufacturers: "In the last 18 months the factors for success in the PV market have shifted considerably. We have seen strong growth in silicon-based solar modules as well as a drop in feed-in tariffs. The resulting increase in price pressures is making things difficult for the manufacturers of thin film modules."
