In a proposal issued in late February, the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) acceded to the concerns of businesses that make asset-backed loans by agreeing to consider new privacy protections for the borrowers who are at the heart of those loans. The market for asset-backed securities (ABS) nearly blew up during the recession when people with mortgages started to default.
