On July 10, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) reported that the New Safe Confinement (NSC) shelter covering the destroyed reactor number 4 of the former Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was formally completed and symbolically handed over to Ukrainian authorities. The ceremony was attended by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy; the Chairman of the Chernobyl Shelter Fund, Hans Blix; the EBRD Managing Director for Ukraine, Eastern Europa and the Caucasus, Matteo Patrone; the EBRD Director for Nuclear Safety, Balthasar Lindauer; and donor representatives.
