Orbcomm Gets New Financing; Moves To Replace Satellite Fleet

With $26 million in new financing from an investment group led by SES Global, once-bankrupt Orbcomm LLC is taking steps to begin replacing its satellite fleet, according to a senior company official. Orbcomm of Dulles, Va., has formally notified industry of its intent to purchase spacecraft and launch services and is awaiting responses, said Marc Eisenberg, the company's executive vice president of sales and marketing. The global messaging and data services company ― which fell into bankruptcy in 2000 and was recapitalized in 2001 ― wants to begin de ploying its new satellites in 2006, he said.
