NATO moves to replace AWACS fleet

NATO HAS awarded contracts for the Alliance Future Surveillance and Control (AFSC) capability that is intended to replace its E-3A Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS). The six contracts were announced by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA)on December 5. The agency described it as "a significant step that will enable the development of high-level technical concepts for NATO's future surveillance and control capabilities".
