Telespazio has been awarded a contract to provide the Turkish Defense Ministry's Gokturk optical reconnaissance Earth observation satellite system in a contract valued at more than 250 million euros ($351 million), Rome-based Telespazio announced Dec. 22. The contract includes the construction and launch of the Gokturk satellite and the installation of the satellite's ground installations. Also included is a satellite integration and test center to be built in Turkey, whose government has said it wants to develop a domestic satellite manufacturing industry.
