Folks interested in working in the renewable energy field are often frustrated by the lack of apprenticeships available. However, there are ways of getting around this problem. An apprenticeship is different than an internship. Internships assume that your knowledge in your area of interest is rather limited, and that you will be available to work for a relatively short period of time — maybe six months to a year. Apprenticeships, on the other hand, involve the development of a skill set, usually in a particular trade that you wish to pursue as a career. Apprenticeships are essentially long-term commitments centered around on-the-job training.
