In the July 15th, 2008 issue of Softletter we profiled how ERP SaaS company Plexus, now Plex, had fundamentally recast its approach to product management based on its experiences during its transition to SaaS. Plex jettisoned its product management force, architecting its SaaS product to replace many of the traditional functions performed by its product management group.rnSince that issue, Softletter has been analyzing the experiences of other companies who have followed down the path blazed by Plex. Our research has led us to the conclusion that if you are a SaaS company, planning to release a SaaS version of your product, or are planning a transition to SaaS, it's pointless to spend money on the type of product management training offered by companies such as Pragmatic, ZigZag, the AIPMM, and several others. Softletter believes that the concepts and developments we will be discussing so completely change current concepts of product management and customer engagement that much, if not most, of what these courses teach is rapidly becoming obsolete.
