Introduction

This special issue of Social and Economic Studies captures the work of activists, academics, and development practitioners who have been at the forefront in their respective countries working to improve the quality of women's reproductive health and rights in the Caribbean. The idea for this issue came out of the editors' participation in DAWN Caribbean (now Caribbean DAWN) between 2007-2010 and its Working Group on Women's Reproductive Health and Rights which was formed to give consistent input and response to the Government of Jamaica's (GOJ's) then Joint Select Committee (JSC) of Parliament considering the recommendations of the Abortion Policy Review Group.
