While SIGNAL's annual January issue may be dominated by the Source Book, its special report offers readers a different per-spective on the business trends that affect the work of many of AFCEA's sponsors. And, as readers who examine the contents page may already realize, this month's lead article is unlike any that has run in SIGNAL in memory. The casual reader might believe that an article titled "How to Lose a Contract Proposal" (page 17) could be an effort to reduce competition among government contractors by sabotaging competitors. But, the opposite is true. This article is geared to getting private sector officials to recognize how they might be doing their own company—and the country as well— a disservice in the way they respond to requests for proposals. The goal is to help companies avoid some of the pitfalls that often trap them as they bid for contracts.
