New Authority in NATO Airspace

The Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC) Torrejon in Madrid, Spain, has assumed authority for all operations in the NATO airspace from the Canary Islands to Hungary and from the Azores to Turkey. Final implementation of the center occurred in early July, marked by a ceremony attended by high-level officials, including the Supreme Allied Commander Europe. Activation of the center occurred in January 2013.
