摘要

It is not uncommon for level crossing protection Systems (LCPS) to remain in Operation for 40 years or more. Rail transportation changes over such long periods and this can lead to erroneous System behaviour. It is now apparent that increased traffic volumes involving a wide ränge of rail trans-port companies operating vehicles not previously used are giv-ing rise to specific faults in level crossing protection Systems. Changes intended to reduce fuel consumption, for example, are modifying train braking and start-up behaviour in ways that were not foreseen when the level crossing protection Systems were being planned. Possible consequences include the reverse activation of level crossing protection Systems and un-intended responses during activities such as track work.
