The level crossing control detects (1,6,9) the presence of the train (5) using a modulated radio signal directed along the railway line. A detector is placed at each end of the monitored zone and at the level crossing. The wave reflected by the train is detected and compared to a threshold value to detect the presence of the train in the monitored zone and operate (17) barriers and/or signals.
