DOUGLAS CHALLENGE

A company called Seaside Shipping has started a legal challenge to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Co's user agreement with the island's Department of Transport which allows exclusive access to harbour facilities at Douglas and effectively guarantees the Steam Packet a ferry traffic monopoly. Seaside Shipping, understood to be part of the Barony Group owned by Isle of Man resident Peter Whipp, started its action by lodging a 'Petition of Doleance' last autumn; and after a hearing in November the case was adjourned until 4 April.
