The fire that hit the 1869-built Cutty Sark in May last year, and the June announcement that the 1969-built Queen Elizabeth 2 will be preserved in Dubai, brought wide public attention to the preservation of old and historic ships. Fortunately, funds for Cutty Sark's repair and restoration are coming in, and QE2 will be turned over as a working entity to an organisation financially prepared to preserve and maintain her.
