Hull construction of the first of the Royal Navy's Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers has started with a ceremonial steel-cutting ceremony at BVT Surface Fleet's shipyard in Govan on 7 July.rnWith work on the hull finally under way, the much-delayed project is now progressing steadily since the manufacturing contract was signed in July last year, with £700 million worth of sub-contracts placed for various ship systems andrnequipment. Manufacturing activity is continuing across the country, including assembly of the first bow section at Appledore and work on . the aircraft lifts in Rosyth.
