Portsmouth is one of the busiest harbours in the country, with more than 100,000 vessel movements a year. While 5,000 yachts are licensed to moor in the harbour, the port is probably best known as the home of the Royal Navy. It is also the terminal for cross-Channel and Isle of Wight ferries, and a variety of cruise and commercial ships are regular callers. And with ever increasing demands on the port's facilities, a new passenger terminal has been built as part of a £16.5 million investment by owners Portsmouth City Council, to be opened at Easter.
