Irish dry dock closes

The 200m long dry dock in Dublin, the largest in Ireland, closed in April, with the loss of a skilled workforce at the capitals only shiprepair, marine engineering and conversion facility. The last vessel to use the dock was the 90m cargo vessel Arklow Fame (2006/2,998gt, pictured). Dublin Graving Docks Ltd (DGD) had operated the dock under licence from Dublin Port Company, who are now to infill the dry dock as part of the €227 million Alexandra Basin Redevelopment (ABR), the biggest infrastructure project in the port's history. Following the port's record-breaking trade in 2015, the ABR is to reconfigure quays to handle deeper draft cargo ships and allow cruise ships up to the 225,000gt Oasis class to visit the port.
