Ships are abandoned by their owners for all sorts of reasons and in many places, often quite out of the way locations. However, it seems that New Imperial Star has been left, complete with her 46-strong crew, in the middle of one of the world's largest cities. New Imperial Star is one of several casino ships which anchor during the day in Hong Kong's Eastern Harbour, then sail in the evening on gambling cruises. But New Imperial Star has not sailed since being detained by the Hong Kong Marine Department for failing inspections in October. Subsequently, it has been reported that crew remain unpaid since November 2015 and that limited provisions on board are being supplemented by trips ashore, depleting further the little money that the crew have. All seem to be unwilling to leave the ship for fear of losing any wages that may come their way.
