Commercial shipbuilding is still under pressure mid of 2018, ordering activity remains at historically low levels, the volume of the order book is less than half of what it used to be mid of 2008. After global shipbuilding reached a historical low in 2016, in 2017 the volume of newbuilding orders more than doubled to 25 million cgt. The increase covers all main segments -tankers, bulk carriers, container ships and cruise vessels. In the first half of 2018, shipyards worldwide recorded a further 428 new orders, totalling 12.0 million cgt, an increase of 38% in comparison with the same period last year.
