The conversion of Kuwait Livestock Transport & Trading's (KLTT) 88,000 sheep capacity livestock carrier Al Shuwaikh (formerly Merkur Island) has been completed and redelivered by Papenburg-based shipbuilding and conversion yard Meyer Werft. Last September, Meyer Werft received an order from KLTT for the conversion of the former contain-ership. This contract was the yard's 27th livestock carrier conversion. The contract was awarded to Meyer Werft, but a number of subcontractors were involved. The vessel was docked at Neptun Reparaturwerft for repair work, with the conversion work being carried out at Fischereihafen Rostock. The outfit and equipment was supplied by a number of specialist companies while the complete steelwork was carried out by Neptun Stahlbau GmbH.
