As the constitution of the city state of Hamburg stipulates that the port should be operated as a universal port, we can obviously outline future requirements of a universal port taking the Port of Hamburg as example. Although we certainly cannot sa; that all aspects of planning for the Port of Hamburg apply to all other universal ports, the European north range ports face basically the same transport challenges. Objectives and development trends are similar and in some cases even identical.
