Escort tugs opt for hybrid power

Chevron Australia has ordered four escort tugs from Svitzer Australia, which it intends to deploy on a 20-year marine services contract at its new Gorgon LNG terminal on Barrow Island, Western Australia. The main diesel-electric plant in each of the 80tonne bollard pull-capacity newbuilds, to be built at the ASL yard in Singapore, will be supplemented by a battery pack.
