Custom-built for clearance

Denoting a high degree of customisation, two tugs ordered for ship-handling operations in French Guyana have been designed for a secondary dredging role, amongst other tasks. Contractual owner De Boer Remorquage awarded the contract for the newbuilds to Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld, after landing a 10-year deal with Grand Port Maritime de Guyane to provide services at the ports of Cayenne and Kourou, located slightly less than 43km apart on the territory's coastline. The bespoke class, derived from two models of Damen's extensive family of azimuthing stern drive (ASD) tugs, will supplement its mainstream towage and firefighting capabilities with the means of assisting in maintenance dredging at both ports.
