RYCO-JA thrives on IMO 2020

With implementation of the IMO 2020 sulphur cap in place, the benefits of international regulation are now reaching the local industry in Jamaica. RYCO-Jamaica, the Caribbean's largest recycler of oil, has had recent recycled oil analysis reach the 0.5% sulphur limit. The first results came in July 2020 and have remained consistent through until the end of the year at 0.5% sulphur.'With many of our oil products derived from the maritime sector, it was only a matter of time until we would see these results,' says Kyle Tofte Mullane, director of operations. Headquartered in the Parish of Clarendon, RYCO-JA services vessels calling ports in Jamaica with the collection of their MARPOL 73/78 Annex 1 (Waste Oil). A Port Reception Facility for ship generated waste, the company currently handles over 300 vessels a year. The recycled fuel oil is utilised for steam generation but also used by local industries such as bauxite and sugar.
