I grew up as a military dependent. My dad is a retired Marine. I joined the Marines in April 2001, and served as an instructor from 2008 to 2012 at the Huey [helicopter] crew chief school at [Marine Helicopter Training Squadron] HMLAT-303 aboard Camp Pendleton [Calif.] prior to Marine Security Guard [MSG] duty. Prior to 2008, I was a weapons and tactics instructor at [Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron] HMLA-267. 1 had two deployments in support of OEF and OIF [Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom] and two other deployments with the 11th MEU [Marine Expeditionary Unit] and 31st MEU, all with HMLA-267.
