Fundamental Policy on the Promotion of Science and Technology

This fiscal year marks the fourth year since the introduction of the 2nd Science and Technology Basic Plan endorsed by the Cabinet in 2001. With the establishment of the "Biotechnology Strategy Guidelines" in December 2002, life sciences came into focus as a strategic priority area for Japan. In this issue, we will provide an overview of recent policies for the promotion of science and technology in Japan and activities and issues in the field of life sciences.
