Women in Science in Europe: EU Policies for the Promotion of Women Scientists and the Role of the European Platform of Women Scientists in Shaping Them

摘要

This paper emphasizes the need to enhance the participation of women in science to achieve and ensure scientific excellence and technological innovation in Europe. European policies and initiatives adopted to tackle the still existing under-representation of women scientists are briefly presented. Specific attention is given to the European Platform of Women Scientists EPWS, an organization created to represent the concerns, needs and aspirations of women scientists in science and research and in the European research policy debate.
