If we're lucky, there will be more books like this one, criticizing "market liberal" economics (neoliberalism or laissez-faire) from the left. John Quig-gin, a professor of economics at the University of Queensland in Australia, presents a learned and frankly social-democratic attack on market liberalism. Even though he strangely dubs himself a "social democrat" only in a footnote (3), he sees labor unions as a good idea while clearly suggesting the benefits of making class struggle two-sided (169). He is thus very different from the standard-issue economist.
