ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY AS AN INDICATOR OF WATER POLLUTION: A CASE. STUDY

This paper presents the experimentally recorded values of electrical conductivity (EC) and pH at room temperature for 41 water samples collected in south-west Kulikawn area of Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram state. The paper discusses the causes of variation of EC and pH values of the samples collected from different streams. The purpose of the present study is to explore the possibility of using EC values of water samples as an indicator of the extent of pollution in them and thereby using it as a reliable, faster and useful method for the assessment of water pollution. The paper also provides explanation about the factors that seems to be responsible for the level of pollution amongst the collected water samples.
