Performance of Low Chilling Cultivars of Peach Under Doon Valley Conditions

Performance of 7 cultivars of Peach was evaluated at Govt. Demonstration Farm of Indo-Italian Fruit Development Project, Dhakrani, Dehradun. Maximum height, trunk girth and spread of Peach tree were recorded in Shan-e-Punjab. Early flowering, fruitsetting, fruit maturity were also observed in Shan-e-Punjab. Maximum yield of fruit was recorded in F.L.A. 16-33 and Floridaking. Maximum fruit weight, pulp/stone ratio and total soluble solids (T.S.S.) were observed in Floridaking. However the maximum vitamin C'and total sugars and palatable acidity were observed in F.L.A. 16-33. On these observations, it can be suggested that the F.L.A. 16-33 and floridaking cultivars of Peach can successfully be grown for high yield and better quality fruits in Doon Valleys. Shan-e-Punjab cultivar can also be grown for early maturing peaches.
