As our membership knows, the School Science and Mathematics Association (SSMA) is the host organization for the School Science and Mathematics journal and has been for over 100 years. A primary focus of both the organization and the journal, since the beginning, has been the integration of science and mathematics, with some emphasis on technology integration. When our team took over the editorship of SSM in 2011, we added a new category of submissions to the journal, integrated STEM, in addition to the standard science and/or mathematics articles, to provide a clear outlet for work in integrated STEM education. In fact, an examination of the most downloaded articles in 2015 for the journal reveals that the #3, #5, #10 slots include papers focused on STEM specifically. The School Science and Mathematics journal published seven integrated STEM articles in 2015 alone, compared to nine mathematics articles and 16 science focused articles. It is clear that the momentum and interest in STEM continues to grow and SSMA members are producing high-quality research in this high-demand area.
