Integrated solutions and a flexible service-oriented architecture were the messages for visitors at SAPPHIRE '05 Tokyo. Japanese companies, in particular, have a great chance to optimize their processes with the SAP portfolio. The many visitors flocking to the Tokyo SAPPHIRE showed that Japan's interest in packaged business software has not abated: A large crowd, a 30 percent increase over the previous year, came to the Tokyo International Forum July 7&8. The reason? Japan still has lost ground to make up in the field of suites such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain management (SCM). So far, companies have mostly concentrated on software they themselves developed.
