Hispanic Relocation: A Study of Gender and Ethnic Identity

Relocation is a challenge for any individual, but this decision is especially difficult when gender and ethnic identity counter the action. In this paper, we specifically show how gender and ethnic identity affect Hispanic male and female willingness to relocate. Our findings suggest that researchers and recruiters have much work to do to combat the gender and ethnic forces that reduce Hispanic (especially female) mobility in an employment context. Hispanic groups are difficult to investigate, given the many subgroups and subcultures. This is a step toward understanding the complexities of recruiting within the Hispanic group when relocation is required. There are differences not captured in this study, but we hope that this study has, at the very least, opened the topic for further discussion and research.
