Conventional wisdom would suggest that sales' and marketing's goals would be naturally aligned. After all, both departments' basic intentions are presumably the same-to sell more product and increase profits. For too many companies, however, there remains an "inherent disconnect" between sales and marketing, says Billy Paullin, president of Atlanta-based Selling Solutions Inc. If a company wishes to survive in today's selling environment, he adds, that separation can't remain.
