It is fair to say that, by and large, seafarers have not regarded the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code as one of the better innovations of recent times. For those on ships where overtime payments apply, there will have been a silver lining but a new report from the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) says that the code has had an adverse effect on the lives of seafarers in a number of different ways.
