EMSA focuses on LRIT and pollution

Environmental protection features strongly in the 2008 work programme of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). This includes a focus on pollution preparedness and response and the implementation of European Union legislation and environmental protection. EMSA will also be looking at vessel traffic monitoring and setting up an EU data centre for the global Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) network, allowing ships and their cargoes to be tracked easily.Accident investigation also has a high priority for EMSA this year.
