It is good when SASI writes about training and education, because both represent basic principles for a safe life at sea. Modern technology on ships has made the jobs of officers significantly easier, a development that is both good and bad, because most of the officers today are not 'motivated watchkeepers' - everything thinks and calculates for them. At the same time, they are constantly under unhealthy pressure: they are occupied with mainly useless paperwork, with the result that they are in danger of forgetting their main watchkeeping duties.
